Charron Maude Secures Bronze at the IWF Grand Prix II

The IWF Grand Prix II event in Qatar was full of massive lifts, some of which broke records and made history. One of the lifters who pushed their limits on the big stage was Charron Maude from Canada. She won bronze medals in both the snatch and clean and jerk, lifting 233 kg in total — the third-best score overall.

Her competitors Luo Shifang and Kim II Gyong won gold and silver medals in a snatch of 108 kg and 107 kg respectively, while Maude came third with 104 kg. Her lift was just one kilogram higher than the 103 kg snatch by Kamila Konotop from Ukraine in fourth place.

When it came to the clean and jerk, Luo and Kim II again secured the first and second positions with respective lifts of 139 and 136 kg. Maude managed to lift 129 kg on her third attempt. She started with a successful first attempt at 120 kg.

Then, successfully upped it to 125 kg on her second go, before finally going for 129 kg. However, this isn’t the athlete’s best, as her prior clean and jerk result stood at 133 kg — 4 kilograms higher than her Doha lift.

Considering how intense the competition was in this IWF Qualifying event, Maude’s total of 233 kg is beyond impressive, to say the least. It is, however, still 3 kilograms short of her Olympic result in Tokyo, which stood at 236 kg. Nonetheless, winning a spot among the top 3 will still be a huge confidence booster for Charron Maude as she trains to win it big at the 2024 Olympic Winter Games in Paris.
