Akbar Djuraev won Gold in the Men’s 102 kg Event at the 2024 IWF Asian Championships
There are only a few more events to go before the end of the 2024 IWF Asian Championships, and the highly anticipated men’s 102 kg event didn’t disappoint as the athletes fought hard to get to the podium and win the medal.
Unfortunately for everyone else, it was Akbar Djuraev’s day to shine as the Uzbekistani lifter got the most wanted accolade of all – the gold medal.
Akbar dominated the men’s 102 kg event, winning three gold medals – for the snatch, the clean & jerk, and the overall category. He started by lifting 175 kg on the snatch for this first attempt and finished with 180 kg overall, as his last attempt for 183 kg got the red light.
For the clean & jerk, he continued performing above everyone else, lifting the incredible 220 kg on his final attempt – 7 kg more than the second-placed Bekdoolot Rasulbekov. In the end, Djuraev’s total of 400 kg was more than enough to get him above everyone else and into the gold medal spot on the podium.
For Uzbekistan, Djuraev’s success comes as no surprise since he already won an Olympic gold medal for his country during the Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo. He’s also a two-time world champion – he won in 2021 and last year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
