Jang Yeon-Hak won Bronze at the Men’s 102 kg Event During the 2024 IWF Asian Championships

There are only a few more events before the end of the 2024 Asian Championships, and of course, this means that we have already moved on to watching the heavyweight lifters.

Thankfully, the men’s 102 kg gave us all that we expected, with a few surprising performances to add to the general excitement of the competition.

For team South Korea, this edition of the Asian Championships has been quite good, and that continued with Jang Yeonhak’s performance yesterday. He started the competition incredibly well, lifting 175 kg on his first attempt at the snatch and then trying to improve on it, but his second and third attempts all got the red light.

However, even his first lift was good enough to give him the bronze medal for the exercise. Unfortunately, after that, things went downhill as he finished outside the top 5 for the clean and jerk and the overall table.

This is Jang Yeon-Hak’s second year competing in the 102 kg; however, this performance was not among his best. Last year, during the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh, he managed to lift a total of 399 kg for the silver medal, and he also got bronze at the Asian Championships with an overall weight of 392 kg.
