Wodapalooza 2024 Day 4: Team Competition Start & Event Recap 

One of the most exciting functional fitness competitions of the year has finally come to an end, as yesterday marked the last competition day of the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza. Of course, during this last day, we finally saw the last team workouts that determined which of the Elite Teams would leave the floor as winners.

Elite Teams Event 4: Recap & Leaderboard 

The first workout for the day was named “The Sandbag Send,” and it already tells you a lot about what it required from the athletes to do, just with that title alone. To complete it successfully, the teams had to: 

For time:

  • Buy-In — 360-foot Sandbag Carry (120 feet each)

  • Sandbag Cleans — Men: 150 lbs | Women: 100 lbs
  • Sandbag Squats — Men: 150 lbs | Women: 100 lbs
  • Buy-Out — 360-foot Sandbag Carry (120 feet each)

As it was for much of this competition, it turned out that the later you start, the better you perform. In the women’s event, during the third heat, team Stronger Than a 90s Trend (Emelie Lundberg, Kelsey Kiel, and Kelly Baker) blew away the competition with fast transitions and no breaks, which gave them their second event win of the weekend and helped them climb on top of the leaderboard. On the men’s side, team Ombre Hombres continued their streak of good performances, managing to win their second event, finishing just two seconds before the second-place Team GOWOD.

Elite Teams Event 5: Recap & Leaderboard 

For the second workout of the day, the organizers had prepared quite the challenge for the athletes as it featured a three-round, waterfall-style exercise trio of kettlebell hang snatches, box step-overs, and biking. The workout, named “Waterfall on the Bay” looked like this: 

For time, each athlete completes three rounds (waterfall style) of:

  • Echo Bike — Men: 24 calories | Women: 18 calories
  • Eight Kettlebell Box Step-Overs — Men: 53 lbs | Women: 35 lbs
  • 12 Double Kettlebell Hang Snatches

For this workout, we saw new winners emerge on both the men’s and the women’s side. In the ladies’ division, Team Ice Barrel (Paige Powers, Brooke Wells, and Baylee Rayl) managed to come away with the win, leaving Team Stronger Than a 90s Trend in second place. On the men’s side. Team TYR (Dallin Pepper, Ricky Garard, and Jayson Hopper) managed to edge out an event win, with Team Piscil also making a return to the top 3 with a second-place finish.

Elite Teams Event 6: Recap & Leaderboard 

Finally, the time came for the last workout of the Elite Teams competition, which would decide the winners of the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza. The ending, of course, was down to a classic – “The Worm Fran”, which challenged the athletes with thrusters and pull-ups as the perfect way to finish the weekend. Prior to the start of the workout, both the men’s and women’s podiums were still up for grabs, so for the spectators, this final workout was with high stakes. 

The Worm Fran looked like this: 

For time; 27-21-15-9 reps of:

  • Worm Thrusters

45-36-27-18 reps of:

  • Strict Pull-Ups

With a time cap of 13 minutes. 

On the women’s side, surprising no one, Team Stronger Than a 90s Trend grabbed the win in the event, which sealed their overall competition win, blowing away the rest of the competition with strong performances throughout all six events. On the men’s side, the gold medal was up for grabs until the last second, and even though Team Piscil ended up winning this final event, the overall win went to Team GOWOD, who showed consistent performance over the course of the entire weekend.

Final Results & Takeaways 

After an exciting four days filled with tough workouts, incredible events, and unexpected wins, the 2024 TYR Wodaplooza came to its conclusion. The final top 3 for the Elite Teams competition looked like this:
