Simon Martirosyan won Silver (Total) in the Men’s +109 kg Category (2024 European Weightlifting Championships)

The very last day of the European Championships in Sofia delivered just what we expected – a thrilling showdown between the nine best athletes in the men’s +109 kg category.

Fortunately for Simon Martirosyan from Armenia, he managed to show one of the performances of the competition day and ended up winning the silver medal for his country.

The Armenian lifter began by lifting 190 kg on the Snatch, which was enough to give him the bronze medal for the lift but still left him 15 kg below his fellow countryman Lalayan, who was placed first and 5 kg below from second place.

On the Clean & Jerk, Martirosyan showed a much better result of 247 kg, but again, that was only enough to win him a silver medal for the lift. With a total of 437 kg, Simon Martirosyan claimed the silver medal, and even though he lost the battle for gold medal by a margin of 18 kg in total, the Armenian lifter still had a lot to be proud of.
