Li Fabin Sets a new World Record and won Gold in the Men’s 61kg Category at the 2024 IWF World Cup

The IWF World Cup held in Thailand marks athletes’ final opportunity to secure qualification for the highly sought-after Olympic Games later this year.

With its significance, the event promises a captivating showcase, and today we saw some of the best athletes in the men’s 61 kg deliver incredible performances.

For Li Fabin from China, the competition began in the best way possible as he lifted 146 kg in the Snatch event on his final attempt, which not only gave him the first gold medal for the day but also set a new World Record for his weight class.

After that, during the Clean & Jerk, the representative of China couldn’t deliver as strong of a performance, but he still got 166 kg for a total of 312 kg and a gold medal for the category.

He finished 9 kg above his rival from the US and 11 kg above the representative of team RPK. 

So far in his career, Li Fabin has won an Olympic gold, a World Championship, and four Asian Championships. Today, he managed to improve his Snatch lift by one kilogram. However, he couldn’t beat the total of 318 kg, which is a World Record he set at the 2019 World Championships.
