IWF Asian Weightlifting Championships 2024 Day 7 Recap – Female 87 kg/87+ kg
The seventh day of the Asian Weightlifting Championships demonstrated the real competition and tension between the category’s powerhouses.
Despite the fact that there were just four and five contenders in the competing divisions, the performance proved that the stakes were rising with each day.
Since fewer and fewer spots are left to get to the qualifications ranking for the Olympic Games.
South Korea Prevails with Outstanding Lifts, While Uzbekistan Keeps Following with Minimal Gap
Let’s meet the TOP 3 athletes of the 89-kg weight class who claimed the spotlight with powerful lifts and great performances:
- 🥇Yung Ha Je (KOR) – 100-130-230
- 🥈Suvonova Nigora (UZB) – 101-128-229
- 🥉Kizhan Maghsoudi (IRI) – 96-117-213
The winner in the 89-kg category was South Korean Yung Ha Je who gained three gold medals in Snatch at 100 kg, Clean & Jerk at 130 kg, and 230 kg in total.
The second spot was occupied by a lifter from Uzbekistan Suvonova Nigora who did 229 kg in total, 101 kg in Snatch, and 128 kg in Clean & Jerk.
The bronze medalist became Kizhan Maghsoudi from Iran who snatched 96 kg, 117 kg in Clean & Jerk, and got a total of 213 kg.
Generally, the leaders of the Women’s 89-kg weight class performed well with a minimum of no lifts at each exercise. Just one athlete from Sri Lanka had two red lights in Snatch and Clean & Jerk disciplines, while the rest of the performances were elaborate and diligent.
What’s about the 89+ kg weight division, we got the following results:
- 🥇Pank Hyejeong (KOR) – 128-165-293
- 🥈Song Younghee (KOR) – 127-160-287
- 🥉Nurul Akmal (INA) – 110-149-259
The 87+ kg weight division leader was South Korean Park Hyejeong who surpassed her opponents with 5 kilo gap between the second place: 128 kg in Snatch, 165 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 293 kg.
Her compatriot Song Younghee won silver by lifting 127 kg in Snatch, 160 kg in Clean & Jerk, and the total of 287 kg.
The third place moved to the Indonesian lifter Nurul Akmal who fell behind the group by 17 kilos having 110 kg on the bar during the Snatch exercise. She did 149 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total was 259.
We admit that the general performance in the group was good enough, but sometimes the red lights appear on the scoreboard.
Top Athletes’ Review
The 89-kg weight class winner Yung Ha Je lifted 100 kg in Snatch, and 130 kg in Clean & Jerk, resulting in 230 kg in total.
Speaking about the silver medalist Suvonova Nigora, she finished with a total of 229 kg, 101 kg in Snatch, and 128 kg in Clean & Jerk.
The bronze holder became Kizhan Maghsoudi, the lifter from Iran. She did 96 kg in Snatch on the third attempt, 117 kg in Clean & Jerk on the second try, and 213 kg in total.
Considering the Snatch discipline, we can confirm that half of competitors lifted successfully, while the rest got red lights.

- 🥈Yun Ha Je (KOR) – 100 kg
- 🥉Kizhan Maghsoudi (IRI) – 96 kg
The situation in the Clean & Jerk session was better: just one lifter had two failed attempts while the rest performed all attempts well.
Clean & Jerk results:
- 🥇 Yun Ha Je (KOR) – 130 kg
- 🥈 Suvonova Nigora (UZB) – 128 kg
- 🥉 Kizhan Maghsoudi (IRI) – 117 kg
Let’s return to the Women’s 87+ kg weight class. Five female lifters were competing today, showing superb weights on the bar.
The Snatch results were the following:
- 🥇 Park Hyejeong (KOR) – 128 kg
- 🥈 Son Younghee (KOR) – 127 kg
- 🥉 Jabborova Tursunoy (UZB) – 116 kg
The Clean & Jerk exercise resulted with the following weights:
- 🥇 Park Hyejeong (KOR) – 165 kg
- 🥈 Son Younghee (KOR) – 160 kg
- 🥉 Nurul Akmal (INA) – 149 kg
