IWF European Weightlifting Championships 2024 – Women’s 55 kg Division Recap

Day 2 of the European Weightlifting Championships in Sofia showed us exciting lifting in the Women’s 55-kg weight category, where nine female athletes were performing in the first session of the European Champs.

This day became a day of triumph for Armenia as Aleksandra Grigoryan gained gold in this tough competition.

Grigoryan Brought Victory to Armenia, Surpassing Her Rivals from Italy and a Cross Trainer from Norway

Let’s meet the TOP 3 lifters who claimed the spotlight with exemplary lifts and amazing performances: 

  • 🥇Grigoryan Aleksandra (ARM) – 81-115-196
  • 🥈Delia Celine Ludovica (ITA) – 84-111-195 
  • 🥉Waaler Sol Anette (NOR) – 86-104-190 

The winner in the category was Grigoryan Aleksandra from Armenia who did Snatch at 81 kg, Clean & Jerk at 115 kg, and 196 kg in total.

The second place was occupied by her opponent from Italia Delia Celine Ludovica who did  195 kg in total, 84 kg in Snatch, and 111 kg in Clean & Jerk.

The bronze medalist was Waaler Sol Anette from Norway who snatched 86 kg, 104 kg in Clean & Jerk, and got a total of 190 kg.

Top Athletes’ Review

The 55-kg weight class winner Grigoryan Aleksandra, is an Armenian weightlifter who became a European Champion in today’s competition. She also won gold at the 2023 World Junior Championships held in Guadalajara with the result of 81-107-188. She also clinched three golds at the 2022 European Youth Championships in Poland in the 49-kg weight category.

Speaking about the silver medalist, Italian Delia Celine Ludovica, competed at the World Championships in Riyadh, but finished seventeenth. She also participated at the 2022 European Junior Championships in Tirana, ranking sixth, and also at the 2022 European Youth Championships in Poland finishing second.

The bronze holder became Waaler Sol Anette, the lifter from Norway. She took part in the Worlds in Riyadh resulting tenth, also the European Championships in Yerevan in the 59-kg weight class finishing eleventh. By the way, she started her sports career at various cross-training games.

Snatch results:

Considering the Snatch performance, overall the performance was good, with several no-lifts on the third attempt, with no bombed-out lift.

  • 🥇Waaler Sol Anette (NOR) – 86 kg
  • 🥈Hulina Yulia (AIN) – 85 kg
  • 🥉Alici Burcu (TUR) – 85 kg

The performance in the Clean & Jerk exercise was that five of twelve lifters had two ‘no-lift’ attempts, with the first successful tries predominantly. Here’s the list of Top 3 lifters who got medals in the exercise:
