Bekroolot Rasulbekov Leads Clean and Jerk at IWF Grand Prix II in Doha – Qatar (2023)
When the 109 kg category comes to the lifting platform we all know we’re in for a big spectacle and big weights, the Kyrgyzstan team brought Rasulbekov to Qatar to try and get him to Paris 2024.
Bekroolot Rasulbekov’s journey through snatch wasn’t as smooth as he would have wanted, he started with an 162 kg attempt that he failed to get under, then he tried again the same weight for a second attempt and successfully lifted it, and for his third attempt he had 167 kg on the bar.
He put chalk on his hand and immediately moved towards the bar, he grabbed it and pulled under it but wasn’t able to stabilize it and missed the lift backwards, leaving Rasulbekov’s with a score of 162 kg and a fifth place in the Snatch.
For clean and jerk the ride was completely different for Bekroolot, he was more confident on this lift, he started with 205 kg on the bar, cleaned it and successfully jerked it, stabilizing it quickly. For his second attempt he went for 211 kg, he stepped onto the platform and got the bar overhead in a solid clean and jerk, for his third attempt he went for 219 kg on the bar, trying to distance himself from Dadashbayli.
He went for his third attempt and lifted it swiftly, finishing with a scream of celebration knowing he had got it. With this lift and after Dadash Dadashbayli failed his 220 kg attempt Bekroolot got the gold medal in Clean and Jerk.
Now with a first place in Clean and Jerk with 219 kg and a Snatch of 162 kg, Bekroolot Rasulbekov got a Total of 381 kg, enough for him to get a silver medal and a second spot on the podium.
