1. WalkingPad C1 – Top Pick

WalkingPad C1

This is a treadmill that ticks all the right boxes – it’s light, compact, foldable, fits anywhere and it’s good quality. You won’t get an intense workout that will leave you dripping with sweat, but that’s not its purpose anyway. It’s a fantastic way to stay active while you’re working, watching TV, or playing Candy Crush. Let’s get into the review and see why this is the best office treadmill.

  • Dimensions: 57’’ x 20.7’’ x 4.6’’
  • Weight: 48 lb
  • Weight capacity: 220 lb
  • Monitor: None
  • Incline Level: None
  • Running surface length: 47.24’’
  • Speed range: 0.5-3.75 mph
  • Additional features: Four-layer runway level board structure, low platform design

With this being so light and slim, you can slide it under a bed and forget you even have it until you need to use it again. This comes in really handy if you want to take it to your office because you can stick it in any closet once you’re done with it. It’s also lightweight so moving it is a piece of cake. It’s got a one-piece aluminum alloy frame, which reduces its weight and improves its stability and durability.

You won’t find a monitor on this treadmill, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see any metrics. There’s a remote control included with the treadmill that has a clear display screen and monitors your progress.

One of the best things about the C1 is its foot-sensing speed control. This allows you to adjust your speed by just changing your pace and it’s a true game-changer. It has 12-gear infinitely variable speed settings so there’s no way you’ll struggle with finding the right pace.

Another thing that plays a big part in choosing a treadmill is how much noise it makes, and you’ll be happy to know that this one is super quiet because it has a low walking platform, so there’s less distance between the machine and the ground.

This is the best walking pad you can currently buy and it is a perfect balance of good price point and functionality. It gives great performance and doesn’t hurt your wallet.

Positives:

  • Minimalist design
  • Very compact
  • Silent operation

  • Not as robust as high-end treadmills

2. Sunny Sleek Stride Compact Treadmill – With Auto Incline

Sunny Sleek Stride Compact Treadmill

This sleek walking pad treadmill is packed with amazing features. It’s the second-best treadmill you can get to get some steps in while you’re working or going after your fitness goals at home.

  • Dimensions: 58.2’’L X 24.9’’W X 5.9’’H
  • Weight: 69.5 lb
  • Weight capacity: 265 lb
  • Monitor: Digital
  • Incline Level: 1.67° - 3.81°
  • Running surface length: 45.7’’
  • Speed range: 0.5-3.7 mph
  • Additional features: Connects to SunnyFit app
  • Warranty: 3 Year Structural Frame, 180 Days Other Parts And Components

The automatic incline with 6 available levels is a great way to provide you some flexibility because you can customize your workout to be as challenging as you want it to be. Although walking is nowhere near as intense as running, if you pair walking with an incline, you can get a decent workout out of it.

Another nice addition to this treadmill is the SunnyFit app that offers quite a bit of workouts and fitness programs. It also lets you track your progress, set goals and access personalized workout plans. You can even compete with other members of the Sunny community! A little healthy competition never hurts, and it can do a lot to keep you motivated.

As far as assembly goes – there’s none of it. The treadmill comes preassembled, so all you need to do is unpack and unfold it and it’s ready to go. Its design is low-profile so it’s also very convenient in terms of storage. There are also transportation wheels on it, so there’s no chance you’ll have a hard time moving it.

The backlit display is a nice addition, but it’s not the best quality and it’s a bit inconvenient to see the information on it while you’re working out. It’s still nice to have, though, and it shows all of the information you want – calories burned, distance covered, speed, steps taken and workout time.

Its coolest feature is the self-maintenance reminder. This means that your treadmill literally reminds you when it’s time to lubricate its belt, which is something that plays a huge part in the treadmill’s lifespan. A well-lubricated belt reduces the friction and the strain on the motor, so forgetting lubrication can cause a lot of issues.

3. Sunny Under Desk Walkstation Treadmill – Most Compact Walking Pad

Sunny Under Desk Walkstation Treadmill

If you’re looking for something super compact – look no further. This is the most compact walking pad and if you have no time (or desire) to hit the gym after work or spend your free time exercising, this is an ideal way to stay active during the day. Just slide it under your work desk and you can work while being active.

  • Dimensions: 50” L x 21.5” W x 6.5” H
  • Weight: 55.1 lb
  • Weight capacity: 220 lb
  • Monitor: 14” x 5” digital monitor
  • Incline Level: No incline
  • Running surface length: 39’’
  • Speed range: 0.5 - 3.75 mph
  • Additional features: Remote control included, built-in shock absorbers, emergency stop clip
  • Warranty: 3 Year Structural Frame, 180 Days Other Parts And Components

The treadmill comes with a remote control so you can easily make adjustments while working out. Just push a button and you can change the speed in a snap. There are also built-in shock absorbers which make the exercise easier on your knees, feet, and joints.

The shock absorbers may not be something everyone absolutely needs, but if you’re someone struggling with a joint condition or recovering from an injury, you’ll appreciate them.

The active-use detection is another great feature. This automatically pauses the belt if it hasn’t detected any use for 5 minutes.

But that’s not all it does to preserve energy! There’s also the Power Saving technology, which makes the treadmill go into power saving mode if it remains idle for more than 10 minutes. It’s very nice to see that Sunny included a few eco-friendly features in their product.

As you would expect from a treadmill like this – it’s easily portable. Just tilt it and slide it to wherever you want. It has built-in transportation wheels so you can just roll it around.

Even though it has a relatively weak 1.5 CHP motor, you’ll still get a decent workout from this compact under desk treadmill.

4. Sunny Treadmill with Detachable Automated Desk – With Detachable Desk

Sunny Treadmill with Detachable Automated Desk

If you want an actual workout from an under desk walking treadmill, consider opting for this one. It comes with a detachable desk and apart from jogging and walking, you can actually get a decent run on it.

  • Dimensions: 65.9L’’ X 39.4W’’ X 53.31’’H
  • Weight: 128.3 lb
  • Weight capacity: 240 lb
  • Monitor: Digital
  • Incline Level: 0-2.8°
  • Running surface length: 47.2’’
  • Speed range: 0.6-6.2 mph
  • Additional features: Device holder, 10 built-in programs, 4 desktop presets
  • Warranty: 3 Year Structural Frame, 180 Days Other Parts And Components

This is a very innovative solution as far as under desk treadmills go and shows you don’t have to sacrifice productivity in order to work out. It combines a decently sized workspace with a treadmill, so if you have a busy schedule but still want to feel like you’re working out, this is a good option.

The table can hold up to 88 lb, which is pretty impressive, and you can fit a lot of stuff on it without worrying the table won’t be able to withstand it. When you’re done, you can easily detach the table and put everything away.

Another handy feature is the wireless option – the treadmill is controlled wirelessly through the display and controls located on the table. You probably know how much clutter wires can cause and how distracting it can be. But this minimizes clutter and keeps your space neat.

Something that will immediately catch your eye is the display. It’s on the desk itself and it’s very nice quality. Apart from showing all the relevant metrics (speed, time, distance, calories burned), it also has 10 preinstalled workout programs. This adds variety to your workouts.

As far as the desk goes, its height is adjustable, and it ranges from 37 inches to 53 inches.

You’ll find built-in shock absorbers on this treadmill as well, which is a feature that’s always nice to have. The only thing you may have a slight problem with is the treadmill’s weight. It’s quite heavy compared to some other treadmills on the list and it’s also on the bulkier side. Still, it comes with some amazing features and a spacious workout surface.

5. REDLIRO 2 in 1 Under Desk Treadmill

REDLIRO 2 in 1 Under Desk Treadmill

This treadmill won’t just save you space – it will also give you a very good workout. It has a powerful 2.25HP motor and the running belt is made of PVC, fiber, and cotton yarn. This delivers a surprisingly quiet workout and improves stability during running. With this, you won’t have to worry about your workout disturbing your neighbors or coworkers.

  • Dimensions: 52"D x 25"W x 42"H
  • Weight: 57 lb
  • Weight capacity: 220 lb
  • Monitor: LED
  • Incline Level: No incline
  • Running surface length: 41’’
  • Speed range: 0-7.5 mph
  • Additional features: Remote control for speed management, a 5-layer running belt
  • Warranty: Eligible for return, refund, or replacement within 90 days of receipt

Redliro made an under desk walking pad to set them apart from the competition with its 2-in-1 design. The running area is quite spacious and with a 220 lb weight limit, it can accommodate a lot of different types of people.

If you don’t want to use it as an under desk treadmill, just raise the handrail and transform it to a jogging or running treadmill. This design is one of the most versatile ones you’ll find, because you can keep active while you’re working in your office or get a good workout when you’re done with work.

The treadmill is compact and foldable, so it’s easy to store and take with you. The handrail folds up easily and the wheels in the front make it easy to roll around. It’s also super thin so it won’t take up a lot of space, even if you’re using it in a tiny office.

You get 12 preset workout programs that simulate real-motion scenarios and automatically adjust the speed every 1.5 minutes. This feature keeps your workouts engaging and, if you want a more personalized control, the manual standby mode will allow you to adjust the parameters (speed, distance, time, calories burned) using the remote control.

As great as it is, this treadmill unfortunately provides minimal impact absorption, which isn’t the best thing for people with sensitive joints or those in recovery. In addition to that, there’s also the inconvenience of not being able to pause a workout session.

If you want a pause, you have to cancel the workout altogether. This can get very annoying, but if you can get past its few drawbacks, you’ll most likely be very happy with this treadmill.

6. Urevo Under Desk Treadmill – Budget Pick

Urevo Under Desk Treadmill

For those on a budget looking for an under desk treadmill, this is a very practical solution that won’t break the bank and it’s still effective.

  • Dimensions: 50"D x 20.9"W x 4.7"H
  • Weight: 55.1 lb
  • Weight capacity: 265 lb
  • Monitor: LED
  • Incline Level: None
  • Running surface length: 41.3’’
  • Speed range: 0.6-4 mph
  • Additional features: Double shock absorber
  • Warranty: 1 year

Its best feature is the double shock absorption system. The anti-slip belt has 5 layers, 2 soft rubber pads and 8 silicone shock absorbers. All of this translates into a workout that’s very gentle to your joints.

This cheap walking pad has a 2.25HP motor that can support up to 265 lb of weight and the manufacturer claims its operation is super quiet. Well… Not really. This treadmill is not something you want to use early in the morning or late at night because it’s actually pretty loud and it will definitely disturb your household members. It’s also not something that will go well with a quiet office setting, but if your workplace is busy and can handle a little noise, then you’ll be fine.

Its construction is lightweight, and the treadmill is easy to store and move. It’s ready to use right out of the box without the need to assemble it.

You can either walk or jog on it, but keep in mind that its surface is narrow, so you need to pay attention while you’re jogging, or you’ll end up stepping outside of the belt.

7. Yosuda Under Desk Treadmill

Yosuda Under Desk Treadmill

Yosuda’s priority is fashion fitness – this means that they make their products to cater to fitness junkies, white-collar professionals, and busy homemakers. They want to inspire fitness habits in everyone and judging by this treadmill, they’re doing so with nice quality machines.

  • Dimensions: 48.6"D x 24"W x 4.9"H
  • Weight: 48 lb
  • Weight capacity: 265 lb
  • Monitor: LED
  • Running surface length: 40’’
  • Speed range: 0.6-4 mph
  • Additional features: 8 shock absorbers, records exercise data for a longer period, compatible with Zwift and Kinomap apps
  • Warranty: 5 years

This quiet walking pad is good for both running and under desk walking, so if you’re looking for versatility – this one is it. You can easily stay active and not interrupt your daily routine and today, that’s more important than ever.

The workouts this treadmill provides are very silent and the noise level is under 45 dB. The motor has recently been upgraded and its operation is super smooth.

But the motor isn’t the only thing that got an upgrade; the cooling system was improved, too, and it does a great job of keeping the motor safe from overheating. This is very important in terms of motor longevity, so a good cooling system is something that most people really appreciate.

The belt size is good for anyone up to 6’5’’ in height and the 8 shock absorbers combined with a 6-layer running belt make this treadmill suitable for a wide range of people.

It’s not all cupcakes and rainbows, though. Bluetooth randomly turns off so, while the compatibility with Zwift and Kinomap apps looks great on paper, in reality, this feature is not that usable. Also, the belt shifts a bit to the left sometimes with no apparent reason, so that’s something to keep in mind.

8. Urevo Treadmill with Desk – 3-in-1 Under Desk Treadmill

Urevo Treadmill with Desk

Urevo wants to make fitness easy for everyone and that’s definitely a commendable goal to have. They’re committed to making quality equipment that’s not bulky and their focus is practicality. When you read this, your expectations of their equipment immediately go up, so let’s get into the review to see if this treadmill lives up to them.

  • Dimensions: 50.9"D x 27.2"W x 37.4"H
  • Weight: 86 lb
  • Weight capacity: 286 lb
  • Monitor: LED
  • Incline Level: 0-9%
  • Running surface length: 42.5’’
  • Speed range: 0.6-8.6 mph without the desk, 0.6-3.8 mph when using the desk
  • Additional features: Foldable, removable desktop

This treadmill really is 3-in-1 – it combines a traditional treadmill with a walking machine and a working desk. Compact, under desk treadmills are usually good for walking and light jogging, but with this one, you can run and get an intense workout on.

It folds up easily and needs no screws or levers. You can fold it up in under 2 seconds and store it anywhere.

Urevo Treadmill with Desk

The design is very user-friendly and has displays on both the handlebar and the remote control so you can keep track of your status at all times. The remote control, however, is not the best quality and stops working sometimes, but Urevo has excellent customer service so feel free to contact them anytime if you have issues with it.

There are also 8 shock absorbers to make the exercise easier on your joints and the wide running surface gives you enough space to work out comfortably.

The 3HP motor is impressive and the speed goes up to 8.6 mph. The treadmill itself is quiet, but if you use the handrails, they shake and get very noisy. Overall, this treadmill is not one that can be described as impressive in terms of the amount of noise it makes. Is this the best standing desk treadmill? Not necessarily, but it has a lot of neat features and its place on this list is well-deserved.

9. Goplus Under Desk Treadmill

Goplus Under Desk Treadmill

Goplus is a reputable brand, and it offers compact and efficient equipment. They’re committed to providing affordable products that have a lot of value and go hand in hand with the modern consumers’ needs.

  • Dimensions: 51.5L'' x 23.5W'' x 6.5''H
  • Weight: 55.5 lb
  • Weight capacity: 220 lb
  • Monitor: 3'' LED touchscreen
  • Running surface length: 41’’
  • Speed range: 0.5-4 mph
  • Additional features: 12 workout programs
  • Warranty: 3 months

This walking platform is a nice, comfortable way to keep active while you’re working. Its priority is safety and the 3’’ pedals meet all the safety standards and give you peace of mind while you’re working out. There’s also an emergency brake button on the remote control for some extra security.

The size is compact, just like you would expect, and it can easily be tucked under a bed or sofa. That is, once you get it to the actual bed or sofa. It has wheels so you would think those help with transportation, but they’re super stiff, even if you’re just trying to roll them on a hardwood floor or tiles.

Trying to roll this over a carpet is a nightmare and you’ll most likely find yourself carrying the treadmill across the room. The good thing is, it’s not too heavy, so carrying it is doable.

You get 4 speed levels and 12 workout programs, so there’s a bit of versatility in an otherwise standard machine. The LED display will show you all of the necessary metrics and its surface is touchable, so you don’t have to mess with the remote control if you don’t want to.

All things considered, this is a decent-quality treadmill, although it is a bit pricey for what it offers.

10. Redliro Walking Pad

Redliro Walking Pad

Redliro claims this treadmill is a completely different approach to a healthier lifestyle and lets you seamlessly include exercise in your daily routine. It’s designed to simultaneously up your productivity and well-being. This is a great idea, and they did indeed make a good treadmill, but there’s definitely some room for improvement.

  • Dimensions: 48’’L x 21.1’’W x 3.74’’H
  • Weight: 50.1 lb
  • Weight capacity: 265 lb
  • Monitor: LCD
  • Running surface length: 40.6’’
  • Speed range: 0.5-4 mph
  • Additional features: Retains data after you pause the exercise, 12-speed preset mode
  • Warranty: 1 year

Something that’s very convenient about this treadmill is that it lets you pause the exercise, but it keeps your data recorded and it allows you to resume the workout at any time. This is great, because it’s incredibly annoying to not be able to make a pause without your data being wiped clean. This one saves your progress so you can just pick up right where you left off.

There’s also a remote control included that you could use to turn off any sound alerts, which makes your workout quieter.

It’s decently comfortable, with a 5-layer running belt that absorbs shock. One thing you’ll notice about the belt is that it needs to be adjusted frequently, sometimes even during your workout. There’s really no way around this issue right now, you just need to keep adjusting the belt because for some reason, it doesn’t hold. This can be a real pain, especially if your workout lasts for more than 30 minutes.

This is a treadmill that’s suitable for both home and office use because it’s quiet and it won’t disturb anyone. With a few tweaks here and there, it would be even better.

11. Urevo Walking Pad – The Most Lightweight

Urevo Walking Pad

If you’re looking for something that’s primarily lightweight, you found it. This is the lightest treadmill on the list and it’s very easy to take with you or move it.

  • Dimensions: 48.4"D x 19.3"W x 4.7"H
  • Weight: 38 lb
  • Weight capacity: 242 lb
  • Monitor: LED
  • Running surface length: 41.3’’
  • Speed range: 0-4 mph
  • Additional features: 8 silicone shock absorbers
  • Warranty: 1 year

With it being so light, you would think it would feel flimsy, but it doesn’t. It feels nice and sturdy and doesn’t seem like it would fall apart. The weight capacity is also impressive for such a light treadmill – 242 lb!

There’s a good quality display that shows all the metrics and lets you make adjustments. When your workout is done, just fold it up and store it, well… anywhere. It fits into any closet and under any bed.

This is another treadmill that has a good amount of shock absorbers, so the exercise is easy on your joints. The entire workout experience is pretty smooth and comfortable, but after an hour or so, the treadmill usually overheats. There’s this smell of burned plastic that fills the room before the treadmill shuts off and once it does, it’s warm to the touch.

Another issue is with the pause feature. Instead of actually pausing, sometimes it will just reduce the speed and keep running so you have to use the emergency stop clip to actually pause it. This doesn’t happen every time, but it’s slightly frustrating when it does.

12. WalkingPad Folding Treadmill – Foldable Walking Pad

WalkingPad Folding Treadmill

We started the list with WalkingPad and we’re finishing with it! This is an ultra-slim, small under desk treadmill with a sturdy aluminum frame. It’s designed to be stored easily and it should fit anywhere you want to put it. It folds up to only 5 inches!

  • Dimensions: ‎21.5"D x 56.37"W x 5"H
  • Weight: 62 lb
  • Weight capacity: 220 lb
  • Monitor: None, comes with a remote control
  • Incline Level: 0-1%
  • Running surface length: 47.3’’
  • Speed range: 0.5-3.72 mph
  • Additional features: Foldable
  • Warranty: 1 year

Its smart gravity foot sensing speed control is one of its best features. This system uses special sensors to adjust the speed based on your foot position. As you go forward, it speeds up, keeps a steady speed in the middle and slows down when you move towards the back. This is a very intuitive way to control the speed and it works perfectly.

It comes with a remote control so you can switch between manual and automatic modes, and it shows your metrics.

The treadmill is built of great quality materials, like a die-casting aluminum frame, the EVA buffer layer and the high-density wooden running board. Its design lets it fold 180 degrees, which reduces its footprint a lot.

It does have an issue with keeping the belt straight, however. You basically need to adjust it every time you want to use it if you’ve folded it the last time. If you have somewhere to keep it folded out, you won’t have this issue, but this would kind of defeat the purpose of a foldable treadmill.

But overall, this is a good walking pad with incline, and the foldable feature is very space-saving. It may not be the best folding walking pad in the world, but it’s certainly a lot better than most!

How To Understand That You Need An Under-Desk Treadmill?

The short answer – almost everyone would benefit from having an under-desk treadmill unless they move regularly, stick to a regular workout routine and hit the gym all the time.

These days, our lifestyle has become very sedentary. A sedentary lifestyle can have a negative impact on your health and productivity. If you’re working an office job, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, it can be an issue to come home and work out. Even though you’ve spent most of your day sitting down, you’re still exhausted from your job and want to rest.

This is why an under-desk treadmill is so beneficial. It’s compact, discreet, usually lightweight and it lets you stay active while you’re working. Not only is this healthier, but it also means you don’t have to feel guilty when you come home and lie down in front of the TV instead of working out. You’ve already got your steps in for the day, so why not relax for the night?

Under-Desk Treadmill Vs Walking Pad: Main Differences

Spotting differences between these two is not that hard – it revolves around their design and features.

Under-desk treadmills are standalone machines and they’re made to be used in an office or home office setting. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t use it in your living room, but that’s not their primary purpose. They usually have a very compact frame and a traditional treadmill belt and a wider range of speed settings for both walking and jogging.

On the other hand, walking pads are even more space-efficient than under-desk treadmills, have an ultra-slim design and can be stored under furniture. Their belt is typically shorter, thinner, and simpler and it’s good for walking but not suited for jogging.

Under-desk treadmills will also mostly have more features than walking pads, like remote controls and app connectivity. Walking pads are more straightforward and their focus is on providing a quiet, convenient walk.

6 Benefits Of Under Desk Treadmills

Physical activity in general is very healthy and comes with a whole range of health benefits. Unfortunately, the modern world doesn’t focus on health as much as it does on productivity so staying active and healthy can be difficult. An under-desk treadmill can help you here, let’s see how!

✅More Physical Activity

If you have an under-desk treadmill in your office, it will encourage you to get up from your chair and be active for a bit during your working hours. Even if you don’t feel like getting up, the treadmill staring at you from the corner will remind you it’s time to get your daily number of steps in.

✅Better Cardiovascular Health

Walking raises your heart rate, and so does jogging - this improves your cardiovascular health. It will enhance circulation and reduce your blood pressure

✅Better Brain Health

Physical activity can boost your cognitive function and overall mood – what better reason to use an under-desk treadmill in your office? It can help your brain be healthier by slowing down the natural diseases related to brain aging. It can also help reduce stress.

✅Less Sedentary Time

It’s pretty simple – the more time you spend on a treadmill, the less time you’re sitting down at your desk. Prolonged sitting is associated with health issues, so if you spend some time walking or jogging, it will allow you to break up long periods of sitting.

✅Minimal Impact on Joints

These types of treadmills usually have shock absorbers that reduce the impact of jogging and walking on your joints, so they go through less stress than they would if you were outside or using a traditional treadmill.

✅Peaceful and Quiet

Since under-desk treadmills are meant to be used at home or in an office, they’re usually quiet and don’t disturb the people around you.

Benefits Of Under Desk Treadmills

7 Drawbacks Of Using Under-Desk Treadmills

Like everything in life, under-desk treadmills have their negative sides. It’s good to keep both pros and cons in mind before making a decision so you can be sure that your new treadmill will fit your lifestyle.

❌Initial Cost

Compared to normal office equipment, under-desk treadmills can be pricey. This can be a reason for some people to decide against getting it.

❌Space Requirement

These types of treadmills are designed to save space and to fit pretty much anywhere. However, you still need space under your desk to put it. You will need to make sure your workspace can accommodate a treadmill and that it’s not in the way.

❌Adjustment Period

You’ll need some time to adjust to any change made in your life, and walking while working is a pretty drastic one. In the beginning, you may find it hard to focus on your work while you’re walking, and you might even get tired faster. If you push through, however, you’ll get used to it and you’ll be able to work almost the same as you do sitting down.

❌Limited Intensity

Although it is technically a treadmill, an under-desk treadmill can’t give you a super intense workout like a traditional treadmill can. It’s designed for walking and light jogging and that’s all you can expect to get from it.

❌Safety Issues

Under-desk treadmills are generally safe, but there’s always the risk of an accident happening here and there. If you’re not paying full attention to walking while you’re working (which can be challenging to do, if we’re being honest), you might accidentally trip. Perhaps it might be best to start off by practicing during breaks until you get more attuned to the idea of working out white working.

❌Electrical Requirements

Some under-desk treadmills need to be plugged into a power source, which may be inconvenient if you don’t have a free outlet near your workplace.

❌Not Suited for Everything

Although they’re versatile and adaptable, under-desk treadmills are not meant to be used with everything you do. Tasks that need a lot of concentration don’t go hand in hand with walking or jogging.

How To Choose The Best Under Desk Treadmill?

Once you decide to get a treadmill, there’s the issue of which one to choose. There are so many of them on the market and every manufacturer claims their treadmill is the best. Of course, reading walking pad reviews helps and they’re a good source of information, but don’t rely on them completely. Do your research and keep some important factors in mind when deciding.

Our expert Tania noted:

“When choosing an alternative to an under-desk treadmill, focus on ergonomic design and comfort. Make sure that the alternative you choose promotes good posture and gives you enough support. A comfortable setup will improve your workday and encourage you to stay active.”

1. Footprint/Sizing

Measure the space you have available under your desk and compare it with the treadmill’s dimensions. Make sure that the treadmill fits comfortably and that it’s not in the way of your other furniture.

2. Speed and Incline Options

Decide what you want to use the treadmill for – walking, jogging or something more intense. Most under-desk treadmills focus on walking speeds, but if you want to, you’ll be able to find some with incline options that add variety to your workouts.

3. Motor Capacity

You don’t need a super strong motor, but you also don’t want a weak one. Anything with 2.5 HP (horsepower) is going to be fine for walking and light jogging. If you want to run, you should look for a motor of at least 3.0HP.

4. Noise Level

Most of these treadmills are pretty quiet and, since they’re meant to be used at home or in an office, manufacturers design them so they don’t disturb other people around you. While most under-the-desk treadmills are usually quieter by design than regular treadmills, there still are exceptions. Look for a treadmill that has a quiet motor and shock absorbers to minimize any noise. This is especially helpful if you’re using the treadmill in a shared working space.

Our expert Sergiy noted:

“For an under-desk treadmill, go for a compact, but quiet model that won't disrupt your work. It's a great way to sneak in some steps and train your cardio system during the day without wasting time.”

5. Durability

Of course, you need to take durability into account because you don’t want to invest in a treadmill that will fall apart soon. Look for sturdy frames, durable components, and high-quality running belts. This is where reading online reviews can help, especially if they were made by fitness experts or people who have actually bought and used the machine.

6. Functionality

A good under-desk treadmill is user-friendly and has features that improve the user experience. Things like remote control, LED screen, safety features and Bluetooth connectivity go a long way in improving your workouts.

7. Weight Capacity

Each treadmill has a maximum user weight stated, so make sure you choose a treadmill that can support your bodyweight.

4 Under Desk Treadmill Alternatives

It’s always good to have a few alternatives in mind. You may want to use them to keep things interesting, or in case you decide you don’t really like your under-desk treadmill, or it doesn’t fit your lifestyle.

Let’s see what your choices are in any of these cases.

1. Standing Desk Converter

If you mainly want to reduce the amount of time you spend sitting down while you’re working, a standing desk converter may be a good option. It allows you to alternate between sitting and standing, which can improve your posture and it’s definitely healthier than sitting all day.

2. Exercise Ball Chair

This combines functionality of an office chair with the core-strengthening benefits of an exercise ball. If you ditch your office chair for an exercise ball chair, you’ll be able to engage your core and improve posture – all while sitting down! This isn’t really a cardio workout or a workout of any type, but it’s still a good passive way of introducing some activity in your workday.

3. Desk Elliptical Trainer

It’s similar to an under-desk treadmill in the way that it goes under your desk. A desk elliptical trainer provides a low-impact workout that engages your legs and can help with circulation. Again – this isn’t an actual workout, but it’s a good way to keep somewhat active and it’s better than just sitting.

4. Active Sitting Stool

Balance ball chairs or wobble stools promote movement when you’re sitting, make you engage your core and encourage you to keep your balance. They can help with some negative effects of prolonged sitting, but don’t expect them to give you a cardio workout.

How To Use An Under Desk Treadmill In 6 Steps

The first step to a healthier lifestyle is making the decision. But after you decide to get an under-desk treadmill, it will take you a bit of time to get used to it. There’s no magic shortcut that can help you do that overnight, but if you learn to use it properly, the entire process is going to be so much easier.

Use An Under Desk Treadmill

1. Start Slowly

If you’re new to this, then you need to start at a slow pace. Increase the speed little by little as you get more comfortable with working and walking at the same time.

2. Correct Posture

No matter what type of workout you decide to do, a proper posture is a must. If you’re walking, then your shoulders need to be relaxed, back straight and wrists in a neutral position. Make sure you don’t slouch or lean on your desk; this can result in poor posture and discomfort.

3. Comfortable Shoes

Walking is a piece of cake, right? Well, not if you don’t do it in comfortable shoes. Don’t wear shoes that have high heels or that are too tight. The ideal shoes should be comfy and breathable.

4. Use a Standing Desk

An under-desk treadmill paired with a standing desk is a match made in heaven. Just make sure to adjust the desk’s height so that your gaze can remain natural while you work.

5. Take Breaks

Don’t forget to take a break or two to rest and stretch your legs. A 5-minute break every hour can help reduce fatigue and stiffness.

6. Combine With Tasks

You won’t be able to properly focus on walking if you work on something that needs a lot of concentration. That’s why pairing your under-desk treadmill with tasks that don’t need too much focus is very important. Use your treadmill when you’re answering emails or attending virtual meetings.

FAQ

What To Look For When Buying A Treadmill Under The Desk?

Pay attention to things like size, noise level, speed range, motor capacity, durability, ease of assembly and any additional features. The under-desk treadmill needs to fit comfortably in your space, and it should stay relatively quiet when you’re using it.

Are Under The Desk Treadmills Worth It?

That depends on you and your activity level. They’re a great way to include physical activity in an otherwise sedentary lifestyle. Under desk treadmills allow you to stay active while you’re working, which can improve your health.

Is A Desk Treadmill Better Than A Bike?

There isn’t a yes or no answer here because it depends on many things like for example what you like and what your fitness goals are.

Under desk treadmills are a low-impact way to stay active while you’re working and the activity they provide is generally very gentle.

A bike, on the other hand, gives a more intense cardio workout that’s not ideal for multitasking, considering the fact that your hands will be occupied.
