2. Niceday Elliptical Machine — Runner-Up
My second-favorite machine is the Niceday heavy-duty elliptical.
This is a simple machine that is ready to use within minutes of unpacking.
Considering this is a 400 lb weight capacity elliptical, it’s surprisingly lightweight, compact, and easy to move around and store in your house or garage.
- Type/Model: Rear Drive Elliptical
- Item weight: Around 106 Pounds
- Weight Limit: Recommended for up to 400 Pounds
- Product Dimensions: 48 x 25 x 62 Inches
- Display: Basic digital display
- Workout programs: 16 resistance levels, 1-6 recommended for walking, 7-12 for running, 13-16 for climbing
- Additional features: Easy to assemble, works on mechanical power - does not require electricity, lightweight compared to similar machines, compact and easy to store or transport, electronic device shelf, transportation wheels, extra quiet
The manual magnetic resistance drive is very quiet, especially compared to electric-driven ellipticals.
This makes it the perfect elliptical machine for heavy people to work out at home, since they won’t bother other housemates or neighbors, no matter the time of day.
The elliptical with 400 lb weight capacity can measure time, speed, distance, calories, and pulse with incredible precision.
It also doesn’t overwhelm the athlete with too much display information and too many workout settings to choose from.
However, there is no advanced built-in computer to track or calculate your statistics, so you’ll have to do it manually.

3. Marcy Magnetic Elliptical Trainer Cardio Workout Machine — Budget Pick
Marcy Fitness offers a wide assortment of quality workout equipment at affordable prices.
Their elliptic cardio machine offers a lot compared to similar products, especially considering its price range.
This would be my home/garage gym recommendation for those on a tighter budget.
- Type/Model: Rear Drive Elliptical
- Item weight: 77 Pounds
- Weight Limit: Recommended up to 300 Pounds
- Product Dimensions: ‎20.5 x 51 x 64 Inches
- Display: Multi-functional LCD
- Workout programs: 8 tensions levels that simulate walking, running, and climbing stairs
- Additional features: Compact, transport wheels, electronic device shelf, foamed handlebars
The first thing I noticed and a big upside to this elliptical machine is how little space it takes up.
With just over 50 inches in length and 20 inches in width, it can fit in even the smallest rooms and house corners.
However, I have to mention that the machine isn’t out-of-the-box ready, it does require assembly.
This isn’t necessarily hard to do, and the manufacturer does provide written and video manuals.
But some people may not want to deal with this, so I’m pointing it out.
The simple LCD can track a variety of stats including time, speed, distance, and calorie consumption, and even has a built-in odometer for measuring long-term usage.
That said, there is no advanced computer or tracking system, so if you wish to track and use your stats, you’ll have to do it manually.
The non-slip, foam handlebars feel soft to the hand, and the oversized pedals allow for more choice with foot placement, which are great ergonomic features.

If you’re someone that doesn’t care about the price and wants to buy the all-in-one premium product, this would be my recommendation.

Most of the focus on this product was put on the touchscreen display and the infinite multifunctionality through app usage.

Using the Google Maps feature, you can simulate a walk pretty much anywhere on earth, in the cities or outdoors.
Want to go for a walk in the French Alps or down the streets of Barcelona? You can.
The workout intensity such as pedal resistance and incline angle will adjust automatically according to what’s shown on the screen.
Considering the machine’s compatibility with a variety of fitness apps, tracking stats and monitoring your progress has never been easier.
But all the cool and modern features aside, the machine itself is well-built.
The console and handles can be collapsed down to the seat, allowing you to store it both horizontally and vertically.
The magnetic resistance system once again makes very little noise and won’t bother you or the people around you as you work out.
The durability and build quality are also unmatched, as they should be considering the price range.

What are the Benefits of Using Ellipticals for Heavy People?
✅ Ellipticals are Easy to Use
Ellipticals with high weight capacity do not require extensive workout knowledge to use.
In the most basic terms, just stand on it and start walking, and you’re working out.
✅ Ellipticals are Excellent for Weight Loss, Especially for Beginners
One of the best weight loss exercises you can do for yourself is just regular walking or running. Elliptical machines can help you simulate both and also develop your workout through resistance and incline levels, for example. This is why they’re one of the most popular cardio and weight loss machines.
✅ Ellipticals are Great to Have if You Don’t Get to Move a Lot
Walking is without a doubt the most important daily physical activity.
If your daily life schedule does not allow you to move a lot and utilize the many benefits of walking, an elliptical machine for your home or garage gym can solve this problem for you.
✅ It’s Easy to Choose Your Exercise Intensity with Elliptical Machines
The World Health Organization recommends adults aged 18-64 years do at least 150-300 minutes of moderate workouts or 75-150 minutes of high-intensity workouts per week. An elliptical machine for obese users is good for either workout intensity, just choose your workout method depending on your schedule and work-life balance.
✅ Ellipticals Build Muscle, Fix Your Posture, and Improve Your Balance
Regularly going for walks or runs with your elliptical machine can help you straighten your back, fix your posture, and improve your balance. You also build muscle in your lower body and core while using it.
What to Look for in the Best Elliptical for a Heavy Person?
1. Adjustability
Two things are important when picking out the correct elliptical machine for a heavy person:
- You need to be able to ascend and descend from your machine without issues
- Once you’re on the machine, it should provide adequate resistance and motion to perform your workout
Nearly all elliptical machines have adjustable resistance and incline levels.
Sometimes, the handles and pedals can be additionally adjusted, but more often they’re purposely built to fit a variety of shapes and sizes. Each machine on this list was described in detail, along with specifications, to help you make the right choice for you.
2. Monitor Functionality
Monitor functionality mostly comes down to preference.
All elliptical machines track your workout statistics.
The main difference is what and how it is displayed, and whether the machine can process that information for further, more detailed results.
Some people will find a lot of usage for multimedia touchscreen computers found on premium elliptical machines.
Others might prefer a minimal design that doesn’t distract with too many numbers and buttons.
People with weaker eyesight especially prefer simple designs with physical buttons, for example.
Most workout machines nowadays tend to have electronic device shelves, in case you want to be entertained while you work out.
3. Portability
Some people will place their elliptical machine and let it sit in the same place.
Others may need to move it around the house and be able to store it away compactly when it’s not in use.
Machines vary in shape and size, but most come with transportation wheels or another assistance tool that make moving them around easier.
Some, such as the Niceday or NordicTrack elliptical, have collapsible consoles or other storage functionalities and can be placed away both horizontally and vertically.
Others are light enough that an adult can carry them from one room to the other or safely push them on wheels.
4. Multifunctionality
Ellipticals are easy to use.
However, they’re also multifunctional tools that can be used for a variety of exercise methods.
Some machines offer adjustable resistance and incline settings to simulate motions like walking, running, hiking, climbing stairs, etc.
Other machines, such as the NordicTrack SE9i, provide additional multifunctionality through their extensive technological capabilities, such as the unique Google Maps simulator.
At the end of the day, all elliptical machines serve the same purpose.
5. Quality for Price
Quality for price is one of the most important product aspects for me.
When I make these lists, I make sure to include products for a variety of budgets.
My top picks usually include equipment that offers the most value for the money spent.
However, I understand that some of you are on tighter budgets, while others want to get the best product regardless of price.
I make sure to include options for you as well.
I consider all of these products as high quality and worth their price, so whatever you choose, I guarantee that you won’t waste your money.
How to Correctly Use Ellipticals for Heavy People?
How to Correctly Use Ellipticals for Heavy People?
1. Pay Attention to Your Posture
Proper posture is one of the most important aspects of any workout, and elliptical machines are no different.
Stand up straight, straighten your back, and keep your shoulders back.
Tips From the Champ
If you’re having trouble maintaining posture, reduce the resistance, lower the incline, or take a break if necessary. Less exercise with good posture is more valuable than more exercise with poor form. Proper posture increases the effectiveness of the exercise, while significantly lowering the risk of injury.

2. Use Your Arms
It may be tempting to rest your hands on the handles or monitor.
However, don’t underestimate the calorie burning coming from hundreds of arm swings you do with proper handle usage.
Not only do they help you burn more calories, but they also help build your arm, shoulder, and back muscles, too.
3. Push Down with Your Whole Foot
People often find that pushing the paddles on the top of their toes requires less energy and activates fewer muscles.
However, less energy and lower muscle activation are the opposite of what you want on the elliptical.
Remember to push down with your whole foot - not only will you lose more calories, but also exercise your legs and lower back.
It’s better to choose an easier workout regimen and do the exercise correctly than to do it halfway on higher difficulty settings.
4. Be Consistent
As a professional athlete and former Olympic competitor, I know how much consistency and discipline matter when it comes to achieving fitness goals.
While fewer but more intense workouts are preferable for muscle building, working out consistently has proven to be better for weight loss.
If you maintain consistency, you’ll see progress in no time.
FAQ

They can be adjusted to provide resistance levels and motion length to fit a variety of body types and weights.
Are Ellipticals Good For Losing Belly Fat?
Yes, but there’s a catch.
A high weight capacity elliptical can help you burn calories in general, but for the best weight loss results, studies show that taking care of your diet is equally important as working out.
Targeted fat loss is a myth, if you want to lose belly fat, you’re going to have to reduce your weight overall.
Which Type Of Elliptical Is Best For Weight Loss?
All elliptical machines can help with burning calories.
However, standing ellipticals will show better and faster results than seated ones.
Front-drive ellipticals can be better for high intensity-exercises, while rear-drive ellipticals may be better for simulating long-distance workouts.
Conclusion
Elliptical machines are great for people of various sizes to burn more calories during workout or simply stay in shape. Regular exercise on them will improve your balance, fix your posture, and build muscle all in one.
