Wodapalooza 2024 Day 1: Events Recap & Leaderboard Results
One of the biggest events in the world of functional fitness is taking place right now in Miami, Florida – you guessed it, we’re talking about the 2024 TYR Wodapalooza, which started yesterday and will end on Sunday when the final winner of all three categories will be announced.
The first two competition days will focus on the Elite Individuals events, and yesterday was the first time we saw many of the best athletes in the world in action. Unfortunately, due to severe rain at the Bayfront Park in Miami, a few of the workouts that were initially planned had to be adjusted, which also applied to the overall day workout schedule.
Thankfully, everything went well, and the competition managed to get underway despite the last-minute adjustments.
Elite Individuals Event 1: Recap & Leaderboard
The first workout that kickstarted this year’s Wodapalooza is called “Double or Nothin’,” and the athletes had two perform for max load, two attempts of the following movements:
- One Snatch + One Hang Snatch – 45 seconds on/ 45 seconds off with Max Overhead Squats as a Tiebreaker if needed.
This short but heavy complex was won by Guilherme Malheiros on the men’s side and by Julia Hannaford on the women’s side. Both showed incredible athletic ability and managed to put on quite the show.
On the women’s side, Julia managed to get the first 100 points of the weekend, lifting the impressive 195 lbs for the complex, but surprisingly enough, someone was there to match her achievement.
Dani Speegle also managed to lift 195 lbs, and the winner had to be decided with a max overhead squats tiebreaker, which Julia managed to edge out with five overhead squats.
On the men’s side, Guilherme Malheiros proved just how strong he is – without any fuss or messing around, he managed to complete a staggering 310 lbs complex that blew everyone out of the water.
