Trinh Van Vinh won Bronze in the 61 kg Division At the 2024 IWF Asian Championships

The men’s 61 kg division proved to be one of the most surprising and exciting events of this year’s Asian Championships, as some unexpected names managed to enter contention for the top spots.

One of them was Trinh Van Vinh from Vietnam, a weightlifter who had failed to make a mark on the world stage prior to this competition and had yet to achieve big results.

Yesterday, surprisingly for a lot of people, he managed to snatch 129 kg on his second attempt and 161 kg on the Clean&Jerk on his final attempt for the bronze medal in that event and a total of 290 kg, which was enough for the bronze medal in the 61 kg category as well.

For the Vietnamese weightlifter, this medal comes as a great help in his quest to win more points for the ranking and possibly qualify for the Olympic Games this summer; however, his current status is not enough to get him to Paris, so he will need to win even more during the next few months.
