Olivia Reeves Squats Three Times Her Bodyweight Aheadf of the Paris Olympics
Olivia Reeves is one of the biggest hopes of American weightlifting, and she’s certainly in the running for a medal at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
For many years now, the US has not had such a talent in the sport, and most of her skills are thanks to her extraordinary leg strength.
To further prove that point, in a video uploaded on Monday, Reeves can be seen achieving a new 1-rep-max on the back squat – 218 kg or 480 lbs, which is three times more than her own body weight.
Upon posting the footage, Reeves didn’t specify what her bodyweight currently is, but considering that she competes in the women’s 71 kg division, her 218 kg squat is exactly three times her current weight, approximately 72 kg or 160 lbs.
Reeves debuted on the world stage in 2019 and has quickly become one of the most competitive athletes in her weight class. So far, she has participated in 14 IWF events, including three Senior World Championships, as a junior and youth athlete.
She’s won six overall gold medals in those 14 competitions and owns all of the Junior world records for the 71 kg category.
Currently, she’s ranked as the number two 71 kg weightlifter in the world and is in prime position to win big at the Olympic Games this summer. Reeve’s career bests in competition include a 116 kg (255 lbs) snatch and a 147 kg (324 lbs) Clean & Jerk, and a total of 262 kg (577 lbs) – results she’s hoping to improve upon in Paris.
