Li Fabin’s Triumph and Tribulation at the 2023 IWF Grand Prix II in Qatar
In a riveting display of strength and resilience, Chinese weightlifter Li Fabin made headlines at the 2023 IWF Grand Prix II in Qatar. Fabin showcased his unparalleled prowess in the snatch with 137 kg, securing a gold medal and leaving spectators in awe of his exceptional abilities.
The performance in the Snatch exercise started from 125 kg on this contest day. The top three leaders’ results were as follows:
- 🥇LI Fabin – 137 kg
- 🥈IRAWAN Eko Yuli – 136 kg
- 🥉PAK Myong Jin – 134 kg
However, after his last successful lift he opted to withdraw from the competition due to his left elbow heavily strapped. The weightlifting community will await updates on Li’s recovery and future performances.
Fabin’s highest personal overall result in the snatch exercise is 145 kg, a record he set during the 2019 World Championship. In 2021, he reached the pinnacle of success at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, clinching the gold medal with an Olympic record total of 313 kg.
Li is also known for his “Flamingo” movement. Fabin stood on one leg while lifting 166 kg at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. It’s a specialty for Li, who said it helps him correct his balance if a lift is in danger of going wrong.
Li Fabin had previously secured the world title in Pattaya, Thailand, in 2019 a title he reclaimed in 2022 in Bogota, Colombia, and once again in 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. His journey is a testament to his consistent excellence on the global weightlifting stage.
