IWF World Cup 2024, Day 3 Recap – Men’s 61 kg
The third day of the World Cup in Phuket became spectacular due to new remarkable performances, world records, and personal bests among the lifters from Men’s 61 kg of Group A.
Li Fabin Сonvincing Victory, with Hampton Morris New World Record Set of 176 kg

The leader was Li Fabin from China got two gold medals – in Snatch at 146 kg, which is a new World Record, and a total of 312 kg, while his Clean & Jerk of 166 kg brought him fifth place.
The second spot and the silver medal moved to a weightlifter from the USA, Hampton Morris. Today he showed 303 kg in total resulting in silver, 127 kg in Snatch finishing eleventh, and a winning 176 kg in Clean & Jerk resulting in a gold medal.
Bronze was won by PAK Myong Jin: he snatched 131 kg, 170 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 301 kg.
Top Athletes’ Review
The 61-kg weight class winner Li Fabin lifted 146 kg in Snatch on the third attempt, and 166 kg in Clean & Jerk on the first try, resulting in 312 kg in total. He had a 9-kilogram cushion behind his rival from the United States and an 11-kilogram gap against his rival from PRK.
He’s an Olympic gold medalist, World Champion, and four-time Asian Champion. Today he improved his prior result by one kilo, namely the World Record of 145 kg. However, he lifted two kilos less compared to his performance at the 2018 Worlds in Turkmenistan.
So, he got the average result in total, without great improvements: it was six kilos less compared to his total result of 318 kilos that was a World Record he set at the 2019 World Championships in Thailand.
Speaking about the silver medalist, the American Hampton Morris, he resulted with 303 kg, 127 kg in Snatch, and 176 kg in Clean & Jerk setting a new World Record in this session.
“He claimed the first Senior world record for the United States in over 50 years as he jerked 176 kilograms”.
He’s a three-time gold medalist at the Pan American Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He also holds both the Junior and Senior Clean & Jerk World Records in the category. Today he succeeded in improving his results by incredible 22 kilos: by four kilos in Snatch and eight kilos in the Clean & Jerk session.
The bronze holder became PAK Myong Jin: he did 131 kg in Snatch on the third attempt, 170 kg in Clean & Jerk on the third try as well, and 301 kg in total.
