IWF Asian Weightlifting Championships 2024 Day 6 Recap – Male 96 kg

Day 6 of the Asian Championships displayed that female lifters have their sights set on defeating their rivals and becoming closer to victory in this competition.

All eight athletes demonstrated their power and precision to improve their personal bests to stand out during the tough battle.

Here’s a consistent overview of the performance of the Women’s 76 kg weight division outlining the leading athletes, their performances, including successful and failed lifts during the competition.

South Korea Leads the Ranking with 21 Kilos Gap Behind the Rivals

The gold medalist in the Men’s 96-kg weight category became Won Jongbeom from South Korea who took three golds: in Snatch at 162 kg, Clean & Jerk at 205 kg, and 367 kg overal.

The second place moved to the weightlifter from Uzbekistan Usarov Sunnatilla who performed 346 kg in total, 161 kg in Snatch, and 185 kg in Clean & Jerk. 

Tarmalov Nursultan from Kyrgyzstan became a bronze medalist with the following results: 149 kg in Snatch, 184 kg in Clean & Jerk, and a total of 333 kg.

To sum up, the competition between the six powerhouses was attention-grabbing due to multiple tense moments that brought some intrigue to the overall battle. Lifters were performing well by showing their form, excellent physical and mental condition, and trying to secure the bar overhead.

It needs to be mentioned that the weight gap between the first and second spots was 21 kilos, while the difference between the second and third places was 13 kilos respectively.

Top Athletes’ Review

The 96-kg weight class gold medalist Won Jongbeom lifted 162 kg in Snatch, and 205 kg in Clean & Jerk, resulting in 367 kg in total. Previously he showed the result of 172-212-384 at the 2023 World Championships in Riyadh.

The silver medalist Usarov Sunnatilla from Uzbekistan did 346 kg overall, 161 kg in Snatch, and 185 kg in Clean & Jerk. Today he fell behind the category’s leader by 21 kilos in total, one kilo in Snatch, and 20 kilos in Clean & Jerk.

The bronze medal moved to Tarmalov Nursultan from Kyrgyzstan. He did 149 kg in Snatch on the second attempt, 184 kg in Clean & Jerk on the third try, and finished with 333 kg overall.

After watching the Snatch performance, we can confirm that just four lifts overall were in red lights. This means that the performance rate of all athletes was above average.

  • 🥉Tarmalov Nursultan (KGZ) – 184 kg
