Bozhidar Andreev won Gold in the Men’s 73 kg Category (2024 European Weightlifting Championships)
Day 4 of the European Championships gave another reason for the host nation Bulgaria to celebrate.
So far, this edition of the Europeans has been very successful for Bulgaria, and the good results keep on piling up, with Bozhidar Andreev winning the gold medal in the men’s 73 kg category.
For the Bulgarian lifter, the competition started poorly, as he failed on his first two Snatch attempts and only managed to lift 155 kg on his final effort. However, that was enough for the gold medal for the movement.
From there on, Andreev didn’t look back as he had three successful attempts on the Clean & Jerk, lifting 181 kg, 185 kg, and finally, 193 kg on his final attempt, which also set a new European Record for the C&J. His total of 348 kg was 12 kg more than second-placed Muhammed Furkan Ozbek, and he added another gold medal for Bulgaria in the overall rankings.
Prior to this success on home soil, Andreev had won 2 bronze medals from Europeans in 2021 and 2022, as well as a gold medal back in 2019. In 2019, he finished 3rd at the World Championships in Pattaya, and last year, he was 4th at the World Championships in Riyadh. He also represented Bulgaria at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he placed fifth overall in the 73 kg category.
