Sarvarbek Zafarjonov won Silver at the Men’s 89 kg event at the 2024 IWF Asian Championships
On the 6th day of the 2024 Asian Championships, we had quite the intense showdown in the men’s 89 kg event, where medals were decided by only a kilogram of difference.
For Sarvarbek Zafarjonov, it was both a day where he won a silver medal and a day where he lost the gold medal by just one kilogram.
Unfortunately for the home country, Uzbekistan, their representative didn’t manage to win the ultimate prize.
However, he did show an incredible performance. For his snatch lift, he got the gold medal, lifting 167 kg on his third attempt (a result that improves on his previous one of 166 kg);
Along with that, he finished in fourth place in the Clean & Jerk lift with 195 kg, just one kilogram less than third-placed Amur Salim Al Khanjari. His total of 362 kg was enough for him to get the silver medal for the men’s 89 kg category, but still, the fact that the first place slipped by one kilogram must be haunting.
In his career so far, Savrabek has won the Islamic Solidarity Games once in 2021, and he has a silver medal from the 2021 World Championships, which were again held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
