Ritvars Suharevs Finishes on Top of The Podium at IWF Grand Prix II

The Latvian lifter, who has been turning eyes in the international Weightlifting competition scene since 2012, arrived at Qatar with his eyes on the prize. He came, he saw, and he conquered the total of the 73 kg category with a whopping 341 kg result.

In an fascinating display of strength, the Latvian weightlifter kept our eyes glued to him during his whole performance. When it came to the Snatch, he did all three attempts successfully, lifting 150 kg on his first attempt, 154 kg on his second and 156 kg on his last attempt, grating him the second place on this lift, 6 kg ahead Mosquera, his Colombian rival and only 4 kg behind Shi Zhiyong, who got first place.

Then came the waves of Clean and Jerks, Ritvars showed confidence and mastery in all his three successful lifts, he started with 175 kg, then went up to 180 kg and finished with 185 kg on his third time stepping on the platform. He didn’t come up as high as in the snatch, as his 185 kg only gave him the third place overall in this lift, only 3 kg behind the Venezuelan lifter Julio Mayora.

Tension was high when it came to the total results because Suharevs ended up being just 1 kg ahead of his rival Shi Zhiyong. The combination of his both lifts, an astonishing 341 kg, granted him with the highest total and gave him the top stop on the total podium. Noting that this wasn’t his highest total, which was at the European Championship in Batumi where he got 354 kg.
